Farm Life

First day of our early spring!

Today was a beautiful day with the temperature topping out at 64. It was so nice to get out and get a little dirt under my fingernails. Those fingernails will stay dirty for several months. We have vegetables and trees to plant. Then the brown Under my nails will be replaced by the characteristic purple of blackberry juice in the summer.

Our 2nd year selling Christmas trees took all our energy. I’m still recovering. Honestly, I think I’m still recovering from our first year selling trees. We are focused on growing our farm though, so I’m pushing through. The past two weekends Jamie and I have attended the PickTN conference and then Williams Honey Farm Bee School. If that’s not enough to get you in the mood for farming, I don’t know what is.

There is so much to do on a farm in the spring, and on top of our normal spring to do list, we are adding even more. We are doing a garden again. I skipped last year because, as I’ve already complained, that first year of selling trees wiped me out. I’m determined to get it all done this year though. Mia is my little garden helper she and I started seeds about four weeks ago. We love checking on them every day. We don’t have a grow light; we are doing it old school. This means the plants are trying their darndest to stretch and to get to the light. Our zucchini had intricately woven themselves together into a tangled mess.

Mia helped me transplant them into bigger cups where we could plant them deeper and stake them too.

Mia also helped daddy with some farm cleanup.

To complete our early spring day we enjoyed the flowers that have started blooming.

I love writing and knitting. I am a work from home accountant, and I'm learning to be a Christmas tree farmer with my husband and two children.
