Our dear sweet family cat passed away today. We are all very sad and are already missing our special friend.
Abby contracted Bobcat Fever through a tick bite and was gone very quickly. Bobcat Fever is almost always fatal for cats and once the symptoms show up it’s too late. If you have a cat and you’ve never heard about this terrible disease please educate yourself and look for the early symptoms during tick season.
We noticed she was especially lethargic yesterday and planned to take her to the vet this morning, but in the middle of the night we woke up to a cry and saw her struggling to stand up. Jamie took her to the emergency vet at midnight and that’s when we found out about Bobcat Fever. The parasite causes it’s host’s body to shut down, and it works quickly.
We made an effort to make her comfortable all day today since we knew it would probably be her last. Anywhere we put her she would use all the strength she could muster to get to the door and to the stairs of the deck. This cat loved being outside. We carried her to a shady spot in the grass and all took turns sitting with her all day long. She was happy outside. After she became too weak to move her head birds flew back and forth in her line of vision almost like it was on purpose to show her what she loved to watch for the last time.
She had a good day outside. It was sad, but peaceful. We were all able to say our goodbyes, and make peace with the situation.
Even Nutmeg got her time with Abby. She lay next to her friend to the end, and then lay her head on her kitty friend to say goodbye one last time.
Rest in peace sweet Abby.
