Farm Life

Farm Thursday: Waiting for Summer

You know that feeling when you’re on a roller coaster approaching that first hill–anticipation, but also excitement, fear, and dread. It’s no wonder people throw up on roller coasters. That’s how I feel about the farm at the moment. I know the summer will be busy with the garden, blackberries, trees, canning, freezing, and preparing to open our Christmas tree farm for the first time this winter, and I’m ready to get started on it. But I can’t quite make it to the top of the hill.

This past weekend, I couldn’t stand it any longer, so I planted something. I started my herb garden. I used portable planters so I can easily bring them in on the remaining cold nights. (Like last night.)

The spearmint is all for Maddox. He was so excited when he saw it, I couldn’t say no. He is generally a picky eater, but he is very passionate about the things he enjoys.

I’ve also been keeping myself busy with, yet, another craft project. I made some labels for the garden. I made the popsicle stick ones for the herbs, and wooden spoon ones for the big garden.

I’m ready to go! Until then, I’ll just have to work on keeping the house clean because that will be the first thing to go when we get busy with the amusement park ride that is summer on a farm.

I love writing and knitting. I am a work from home accountant, and I'm learning to be a Christmas tree farmer with my husband and two children.
