The word April comes from the Latin word that means to open. Plants usually begin to open in April. The weather here in Tennessee is still not cooperating with us as far as planting goes. We’ve had to push our projected date back again. It is still spring though which is the season of inspiration for what’s to come. Instead of our plants opening, we are opening our minds and creativity. Typically for me that means knitting or writing.
I like to do arts and crafts with my kids, and Mia keeps asking me to teach her how to knit. Every time I try, she loses interest before I can gather up the yarn and needles. Since learning to knit requires patience, I take that as a sign that she’s not quite ready. In lieu of knitting this time, she and I busted out the colored pencils and markers.
Until we get to actually plant, we only have our drawn vegetables. I sketched out a plan of where everything will be planted–once we finally get to start planting. I started by drawing the garden dimensions and the width of the rows, and then I got carried away. After I labeled the rows and colored inside them, I added a bible verse and some veggies along the bottom.
Mia drew a watermelon. That’s what she is looking forward to the most. Her watermelon below is cut open, that is why you can see the pink flesh on the side. She was proud of her creation and thought we should hang it on the refrigerator; I agreed.
